JOAQUIN CANAY, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, began tango dancing as a teenager on the north side of Buenos Aires. He has studied with Oscar Caballero, Marta Echeverry, Adrian and Sandra, the Blanco Family, Cesar and Isabel Fernandez, Davel, Maria, Roberto Contreras, and many others. Mr. Canay maintains a residence in New York City, where he continues to perform. He is an exponent of the “close embrace” or “milonguero” style of tango dancing. He has been teaching and performing at various places, including Buenos Aires, New York, the Finger Lakes region, Princeton, Miami, Hawaii (Maui) and San Francisco, to mention only a few.
